Port Connectivity

The Sagarmala Programme has identified connectivity between ports and domestic production and consumption centers, through Rail, Road, Pipeline, Multi Modal Logistics Parks (MMLP) under the pillar of port connectivity. In view of above, the Sagarmala Programme has a dedicated pillar consisting of 279 projects in total worth Rs. 2,06,363 Cr. and are being undertaken by various implementation agencies. Out of these 279 projects, 82 projects worth Rs. 41,780 Cr. have been completed and 67 projects worth Rs. 81,191 Cr. have been awarded and currently under implementation.

Rail Connectivity: There are 114 port-rail connectivity projects worth Rs. 1,00,599 Cr. have been taken up by MoPSW with Indian Railways, Major Ports, and Maritime Boards. Out of which, 49 projects Rs. 26,385 Cr. have been completed and 65 projects are in various stages of development and implementation. These projects will help in integrating port rail and road connectivity resulting in reduction in logistics cost for the EXIM business.

Road Connectivity: There are 152 port-road connectivity projects identified for total estimated investment of Rs. 98,422 Cr. Implementation of these projects is being done by MoRTH, Major Ports, Maritime Boards and State Road Development Companies. Of total projects, 26 projects worth Rs. 9601 Cr. have been completed and 126 projects are in various stages of development and implementation.

MMLP: It is very much necessary to create capacity in hinterland which provides efficient transportation channel with sea ports for movement of cargoes and containers. There are 10 MMLP worth Rs. 2,237 Cr. being implemented across India. Out of which, MMLP at Pantnagar in Uttrakhand, Naya Raipur in Chhattisgarh, Jharsuguda in Odisha and Phase II of Multi Model Logistics Hub at Visakhapatnam Port have been completed and in operation by CONCOR. Three projects at Darjeeling in West Bengal, Paradip Port in Odisha and Swarupganj in Rajasthan are under implementation.
5 projects of MMLP are being implemented by Major Ports. JNPT is developing MMLP at 4 locations, namely at Niphad, Wardha, Jalna and Ranjani in Maharashtra; Project at Wardha and Jalna is in advance phase of implementation. Chennai Port Trust is implementing MMLP project at Jolarpet.
